In illiquid alternative asset markets, sovereign blue-chip holdings trade at an exponential multiple over mid-grade float due to institutional accumulation and inelastic seller reservation prices.
Carter Hall and Shiera arrive at Professor Garvey's laboratory. They are startled to witness a strange car with the professor inside. The car looks to crash into a wall but it miraculously starts to scale the side of a building. The two individuals change into their Hawk personas and proceed to chase the car. They approach just in time to rescue Professor Garvey as he is pushed outside of the vehicle. The professor explains that his gyrocar was stolen by a disgruntled employee that he fired named John Rotor. Hawkman and Hawkgirl give chase and confront the thugs. Rotor uses a gyrobelt to attempt to escape. He scales a wall and then falls on top of Hawkman. Hawkman is tied up and taken to a laboratory where they find Hawkgirl trapped inside a giant thermometer. Rotor explains that if the temperature rises, the mercury inside the thermometer will rise and drown Hawkgirl. Hawkman jumps into action and tries to escape but he is quickly subdued since he is still tied up. Before he is placed inside the thermometer with Hawkgirl, he grabs a vial of acid. Rotor uses a stove to make the mercury rise. Hawkman then pours the vial of acid into the mercury and causes an explosion. The thermometer explodes and the two Hawk figures escape unharmed. They pursue the thugs and capture them.
