In illiquid alternative asset markets, sovereign blue-chip holdings trade at an exponential multiple over mid-grade float due to institutional accumulation and inelastic seller reservation prices.
Freddy Freeman is peddling the Daily Gazette, which is running a headline about an opium ring at large. Officer Jim Bellows shows up and says that they found out that the opium is coming from somewhere in the City. Hearing some fighting, Officer Jim runs in to go see what's up, finding several men fighting about who is running a certain rented space and one of them throws the other out the window. Seeing it, Freddy calls CAPTAIN MARVEL and becomes Captain Marvel, Jr. and catches him. The man, Mr. Beech, is carried back upstairs as Jim figures this out with the landlord, Mr. Gardner. He says that everyone just got too heated about this. Junior offers that there's an open office building between there and Mrs. Wagner's, but a third guy says that that's the Ghost Building. The man who threw Beech out of a window, Mr. Long, agrees to look into it, as does Mr. Beech. Junior offers they go see Freddy Freeman about it and returns to being Freddy at his Newsstand. Freddy shows them the “Ghost Building,” finding the ornery owner, Mr. Blackstone, offers he might as well. Mr. Long is happy that he only has a briefcase to move in with, but Mr. Beech says it'll take a lot longer for him. Long finds they have a self-service elevator (these were rare at the time) and enters it, but finds it's stopped suddenly between the 3rd & 4th Floors where he's knocked out by a hook leaning in from the door, then drags him out by his jacket. Later, Freddy is helping Mr. Beech move his stuff in via the elevator, but it stops against between Floors 3 and 4 and while Freddy is pushing the emergency button, Beech is yanked by the same panel in the wall. Freddy is soon dropped out of a trapdoor in the floor of the car, so he calls CAPTAIN MARVEL and becomes Captain Marvel, Jr. Flying up, he breaks into the wall and finds a secret tunnel leading out and that in the same hallway is a giant pile of packages full of opium and a control that makes the elevator stop. Junior hears moaning as Mr. Blackstone is revealed to have kidnapped Mr. Long and Mr. Beech, having used the “Ghost Building” myth to store and run his opium ring. Junior crashes through the steel door to stop Blackstone from shooting them both and then returns the elevator to the top when Blackstone tries to escape via an elevator and beats him soundly, saying he's going to State Prison. Later, Freddy tells Officer Jim that Blackstone's in jail and the “Ghost Building” now will help solve the office shortage problem and the opium ring is defeated.
