At home, Freddy Freeman hears the doorbell and finds that the person there is an elderly magician named Dudley wearing a tuxedo, a polka-dot cummerbund and a red turban. Mrs. Wagner points out they don't have any rooms and Freddy graciously offers that he sleep in the damp basement and let Dudley use his room to sleep. Mrs. Wagner warns that the Murphy bed “doesn't work too well” and shows Dudley to Freddy's room. Later, she offers to make him something to eat before she goes shopping and Dudley politely declines. Freddy goes off to peddle papers while Dudley hides stolen jewels from his turban in the Murphy bed in the basement. That night, Freddy goes to get into bed, but the Murphy bed swings up to slam him into the wall and he calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. so he doesn't smack his head into a likely concrete wall. He soon discovers the jewels are hidden in the mattress' side and goes to the store where she bought it, Milder Mattress Co. He soon finds out they're not open in the middle of the night and decides he'll return the jewels in the morning to the police and hides them right back in the mattress… until he hears a report of the radio that says the Bentley Diamond Shop has been robbed of jewels, including a specific description of the same jewels he's located. Junior figures that whoever stowed them there will be coming back for them, so he returns to being Freddy and decides to stay up. Soon, Dudley tries to sneak in, having forgotten that Freddy is sleeping there. Freddy bolts up to call his magic words, but the Murphy bed kicks again and smacks his head into the upper jamb of the Murphy bed, knocking him out. Dudley stuffs a bound and gagged Freddy into the Murphy bed where he hopes that he'll suffocate and escapes. Soon, Freddy wakes up and finds it's hard to breathe through a bed, but manages to slip his gag on a busted mattress spring and calls CAPTAIN MARVEL. Captain Marvel, Jr. soon finds Dudley trying to catch a trolley, and he stammers out about what happened to Freddy when Junior says he “heard a story” from him. He quickly punches out Dudley and arrests him. The next day, Freddy says that he's glad that Dudley is gone and decides not to mention anything to worry Mrs. Wagner.
