Comics grow darker and more socially aware. Wolverine, Punisher, Swamp Thing debut. Creator-driven storytelling emerges.
Newsstand variants carry meaningful scarcity premiums. First appearances from this era are blue-chip investments.
In illiquid alternative asset markets, sovereign blue-chip holdings trade at an exponential multiple over mid-grade float due to institutional accumulation and inelastic seller reservation prices.
When Windy Taylor, the man who taught Jonah Hex to shoot, calls for Hex to help protect his ranch, Jonah finds that it's become the target of Mr. Frenrick, who has been hiring gun men to try and drive Windy off the land. Upon his arrival, Jonah is witness to Windy's steers being shot in an attempt to get Windy to go after the men responsible so as to leave his property unattended. Jonah tracks them instead and kills them both, however while he is gone, Windy's son Todd returns home after an argument with Windy weeks back about leaving to go East. Windy decides to give his son the money it will take to travel, however believing his father is refusing again -- and being hired by Fenrick himself -- Todd kills his father in cold blood and takes the money. He goes to Fenrick to get his payment, however his greed and thrust for murder prevail and Todd shoot Fenrick and takes his cash box and makes an escape. Todd is tracked down by Hex and his wolf Iron Jaws, who have been following him since they discovered Windy dying in his home. Hex and Todd have a draw, which Hex wins easily, shooting the boy dead. Traveling to the near-by town with the bodies of both Taylors, Hex leaves the undertaker with specific instructions: Windy's body is to be buried on his property, while the body of his son is to be sent out East to be buried there.
