As he is leaving Houston, Kaine sees an explosion and asks the taxi driver what's in that direction. When he answers the hospital, Kaine realizes that someone wants to hurt the girl who rescued and threw the driver out of the car rushes to her rescue. A man with pyrokinetic powers tries to kill the girl he calls Aracely, but she doesn't remember who he is. Kaine, wearing the costume, attacks the man and after a hard fight manages to win. Kaine wants to kill him, but something stops him. That night, Kaine goes to Aracely to check on her condition and the cop and the doctor he met when he took her to the hospital try to persuade him to stay in Houston by telling him that since the girl is an illegal immigrant she will probably be deported, and that the city needs a superhero. Kaine initially refuses, but then thinks about it and takes Aracely to his room at the Four Seasons, telling himself that he can finally try to have a real life and that if he can't, Mexico is close.

That's when the real Scarlet Spider arrives to fight off his impostor. The virtual Spider then manages to create an automatic weapon out of thin air and begins opening fire on the hero. Realizing that his opponent is getting more dangerous by the moment, the Scarlet Spider begins assaulting the impostor with a series of impact webbing. With the fake Scarlet Spider subdued, the wall-crawler rips open the ball of webbing but is surprised to find nothing inside. By this point, the police have arrived on the scene to arrest the wall-crawler, but he manages to escape. Witnessing all of this, but unaware that the attacker was an impostor, J. Jonah Jameson orders Ken Ellis to use the bugle's resources to crucify this new menace.
