Ronnie Raymond, who has merged with Jason Rusch to become Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond/Jason Rusch), begins to chafe at being locked up by Martin Stein. It is revealed that Stein has enlisted the help of Atom to conduct further analysis of Jason and Ronnie so they can determine why they cannot separate. Eventually Atom shrinks down and enters the Firestorm Matrix in hopes that he can affect the Matrix at a subatomic level and force Jason and Ronnie apart. Soon, Ronnie hears a mysterious voice in his head mocking him, which he believes to be Jason. Jason denies this, but Ronnie becomes irate and the form of Firestorm begins to meltdown. Stein rushes to the sealed chamber, but Firestorm explodes ripping the vault-like door from its hinges. In a small town in New York State, a seemingly normal wife and mother learns that Martian Manhunter is alive. She kills her family and pulls off her skin revealing herself to be a Green Martian. Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter investigates the grave of Professor Saul Erdel, and learns he secretly had a daughter, Melissa Erdel. Manhunter decides that the daughter may be able to help him explain why his recent visions do not match his memories. Hawkman and Hawkgirl track down the base of the men who stole their original remains and learn that Hath-Set is responsible. They have grown tired of being Hath-Set’s prey and victims for centuries. They decide that they will go on the offensive and kill Hath-Set. Back in New York State, Martian Manhunter visits Melissa Erdel and learns that she is suffering from old age and dementia. The Manhunter uses his telepathy to learn that she and Erdel had summoned another Martian before J'onn. Elsewhere, the Somali pirates have been defeated, Aquaman and Mera take their leave. Deadman attempts to get their attention or follow them, but instead, he receives a cryptic message broadcast into his mind: “Help them live.” He is then again teleported unwillingly, this time to a barren alien world. As Deadman searches the barren rock, he is astonished to find none other than the Anti-Monitor, alive and seemingly as dangerous as ever.
