Comics grow darker and more socially aware. Wolverine, Punisher, Swamp Thing debut. Creator-driven storytelling emerges.
Newsstand variants carry meaningful scarcity premiums. First appearances from this era are blue-chip investments.
No narrative synopsis recorded in GCD for this sequence.
In illiquid alternative asset markets, sovereign blue-chip holdings trade at an exponential multiple over mid-grade float due to institutional accumulation and inelastic seller reservation prices.
A man desperately flags down the police on a deserted highway. A squad car pulls up and the man states that he and his girlfriend have been attacked by a werewolf. The man escaped but the woman lies dead in his car with two puncture wounds on her neck. They call for an ambulance but when it arrives. The corpse of the woman has disappeared. The police are puzzled as they discuss the case the next day in their office. They are shocked to then see the victim walk into their headquarters. Sylvia Kringle states that she was passed out but revived and simply walked off. The couple rethinks their story and decide there was no werewolf after all. The attacker was probably a vagrant. The woman is asked about the puncture marks on her neck and she explains that she was born with birthmarks that resemble punctures. She has had them all her life. The police shrug off the case and consider it closed. They later find that a strange man has dropped into the office and identified himself as an expert at fighting werewolves. The police find him to be rather bizarre and abruptly shun him. The cops resume their usual patrol. They travel to the same spot where they first encountered the alleged attack and they see the same man hailing them again asking for help. This time he states that his friend Claire has been attacked by a werewolf. The police are puzzled because the previous woman victim was named Sylvia. The man states that it was Sylvia who bit Claire. Sylvia has been transformed into a werewolf. The police examine the car and find a dead woman lying in the front seat. A police officer stays with the body while the other officer calls for an ambulance. The corpse soon turns into a werewolf and seemingly attacks the police officer that was guarding her. The Ambulance soon arrives but again there is no corpse. The police officer that was guarding the body had passed out and has no recollection of what happened. All this is too strange so the police call upon the strange man that claimed that he was a werewolf expert. Professor Oscar Thorndyke is asked to help on the case. Thorndyke introduces his beautiful young assistant named Mercedes. He explains that she will help them catch the werewolf and that she has been trained for the job. They send in Mercedes to the home of Myron who originally hailed the police from the highway. Myron converses with Mercedes but soon transforms into a werewolf. He attempts to bite Mercedes on the neck but the werewolf breaks out in pain as his teeth crack. It turns out that Mercedes is a robot and is not susceptible to werwolf bites. The professor then explain to the police officer that employed him that his partner has also become a werewolf but for $8000 he will send in his assistant Mercedes to “cure him” The officer is reluctant but then admits that his partner bit him that morning. He transforms into a werewolf right in front of Professor Thorndyke and attacks.
