It's been a long time since Floyd Lawton was on the Suicide Squad - and he can hardly blame anyone for it, given that he lost his shooting arm, and Belle Reve's new underground facility makes it easier to forget he's there. That is, until an explosion in the prison sees him rescued by Amanda Waller. She had been hiding for years, trying to destroy the morally dubious Belle Reve facility from the outside - and now she needs Floyd's help to do it. Of course, she needs more than just Floyd, and she drags him along to Black Manta's cell, but he appears to be altered in some way by a government who thought they could somehow improve him by downloading Deathstroke's fighting knowledge into his brain. The effort fried his brain instead. In order to win his loyalty, Amanda offers him a fish stick, and he accepts it as a token of friendship. Harley Quinn, meanwhile, is being kept in isolation because the use of Venom on her has made her too dangerous to keep in the general population. Naturally, Harley hates her captors, and Amanda is sure she can convince Harley to join her by giving her the chance to tear them apart. With her team reunited, Amanda explains that they have all been forgotten by the US Government. After years of trying to improve the Suicide Squad, the government realized they didn't need the squad anymore. But Amanda wants to know just what it is they are planning and doing. She has a lead suggesting that whatever it is will happen in Texas. She suspects that the government is using a facility there to create an army of bad guys using cloning technology. Together, the Squad breaks into one of the buildings on the compound, where they find a nursery of babies, whom Amanda suggests have had the Squad's personalities downloaded into their brains. With age-acceleration technology, the clones will soon be viable, and Amanda wants them all to destroy as much of the future that's coming as possible. As they push on, they are disturbed to be halted in their tracks by two teenage boys resembling the Joker. Amanda realizes that the aging process must have already begun. Harley, though, is so incensed by the affront of cloning the Joker that she attacks violently, only to get a face-full of acid. Soon Black Manta finds himself on the receiving end of a cruel stabbing, while Harley ends up with a bomb stuck to her back, just out of her reach. Worriedly, Amanda grabs Floyd and drags him to safety before Harley blows up. Skeptically, Floyd wonders if Amanda even knows where they're going. There seem to be no guards in the place, and it makes him suspicious. Suddenly, gunfire forces them to duck for cover as a clone of Deathstroke announces that he is all the security the place needs. Sternly, Floyd insists that Amanda leave the clone to him, despite the fact that he has only one arm and a pistol to the clone's automatic rifle and swords. To make things fair, the clone offers to fight with swords instead, tossing Floyd one of the blades. Soon, Deathstroke has Floyd beaten to the ground, and Floyd warns that he has learned lessons that this kid couldn't have by now. Firstly, he should use his weakness, and second, he should stick to what he's good at. To that end, Floyd takes the brunt of the clone's sword thrust into the stump of his arm, and uses the lodged hilt to smack his opponent in the face, allowing him to grab his pistol and blow the clone's face off. Gravely wounded, though, Floyd survives long enough to hear Amanda coming in over his earpiece, announcing that she succeeded in shutting the project down. One last victory for the Suicide Squad.
