Deputies Mark and Clay stumble upon sleeping Kid Colt while out searching for the Hawkins Gang. Thinking he was a bigger grab they woke him up and guns in hand pointed him towards town. Kid Colt made his move during the travel but was shot in the arm and despite the quickness of Steel, his horse, he fell off due to lack of blood loss. The deputies caught up with him, but at the same time so did the Hawkins Gang. Jeb Hawkins and his gang had the deputies dead in their sights and thus forced them to drop their weapons and dismount their horses as well as to leave their canteens and start walking back to town. While the waking up Kid Colt was to help Jeb pull off a bank heist. Kid Colt knowing sending the deputies without water in the desert 35 miles away from town would be their death and so he sided with the deputies. Taking a prison sentence over being a murderer. Hawkins Gang held up at gun point he started to drift off due to the lack of blood again but before doing so shot Hawkins' gun out of his hand which allowed the deputies to get the better of the rest of the gang. Upon waking up in what he thought was going to be a prison was instead the open outdoors next to Steel. On him was a note thanking him for what he did and since one favor deserves another, the deputies left Kid his freedom and bandaged his arm before departing with the Hawkins Gang to prison.
