Jake Gomez is all that stands in the rainy space between the monsters and a truck full of frightened kidnapped locals. Unflinching as they advance, he leaps toward the nearest monster, only to be knocked to the ground. Molly queues him a fight song and he’s back up, tackling the beast. Jake sees the truck holding the captives speed off and feels his grip on his own monster slipping away. Another monster takes Jake out at the legs before he can dispatch the one caught in his claws. He continues to tussle with the trio of augmented creatures, thrown from the field of battle but not before damaging one’s neural unit and leaving it confused. The downpour begins to cause flooding, and Molly retreats, unable to find Jake. She goes to the reservation’s municipal center and demands help finding her friend. Officer Schilling promises her that he will go look for Jake with U.S. Marshals Red Wolf and J.J once the rain has passed, encouraging her to get some rest. Jake fades in and out of consciousness, searching for shelter from the unrelenting elements. Badly hurt, he wanders into a cave and sees a younger version of himself. He witnesses his childhood, full of bullying for his ethnic background but feeling different due to something else, deep inside him. He remembers seeing his father’s work as a gang member before being imprisoned, and his mother’s death; he sees his own connection to the infinite universe and his lineage, knowing he must now choose his own future. Officer Schilling drops off the U.S. Marshals on Jake’s trail in the light of day. Using advanced technology, they uncover evidence of the skirmish between Jake and the monsters, and Red Wolf senses a connection between these creatures and the missing persons. At Life Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Makowski orders Mr. Wagner to use whatever means to capture the werewolf. Holding on to his visions, Jake makes his way through the desert, hoping to get home before the sunset brings night and his other self. He hears the blades of a helicopter cutting through the sky as the men he and Molly scared off scope the area in search of him. Jake hides behind some boulders but is found by Red Wolf and JJ, arriving in a dune buggy. Red Wolf calls for him as Jake rabbits away, transforming into the werewolf without his headphones or friend Molly to help keep him in control. Red Wolf and JJ corner the trapped werewolf, who finds himself unable to stop himself from lashing out at them.
