Down on her luck, Jean responds to a lost and found ad and claims a piece of jewelry under false pretenses. Murray is another claimant and he and Jean fall in love. She thinks he’s poor, but he takes her to fancy restaurants and nightclubs, and she suspects he’s a criminal. Murray tells her that he's not poor -- the brooch was his mother’s, so he knows Jean lied. He gave her a chance to confess and she didn't so he breaks up with her. Jean works as a waitress in “a cheap restaurant” to recover the jewelry from the pawnshop, and mails it to Murray. He forgives her and they will wed.
