Overprint
'Overprint' describes a comic print run that exceeds original distributor and retailer demand forecasts. Because it increases available supply beyond what collectors actually wanted at time of release, an overprinted issue typically trades at suppressed secondary-market pricing relative to an otherwise-comparable, correctly-forecast (or under-forecast) print run of similar quality and content.
When production or issuance of a good or security exceeds actual market demand, the resulting oversupply typically depresses price, since more units are chasing the same or a smaller pool of buyers.
Real-World Comic Market Application
An issue printed well beyond actual retailer reorder demand often becomes a common back-issue-bin book trading near or below cover price, even if its story content is well-regarded, simply because supply outstripped realized demand.
Domain Guardrails & Anti-Patterns
Do not assume every high-print-run issue is necessarily overprinted -- overprint specifically means supply exceeded demand, not merely that the print run was large in absolute terms.
