During World War II, on a military ship, a soldier ordered the others to prepare for the arrival of enemy aircraft. However, the planes killed most of the soldiers. Some managed to abandon the ship quickly. While they were fleeing, one of the planes launched a missile that destroyed the vessel.
The soldiers who had escaped were thrown onto an island by the force of the explosion. One of them, agonizing, cried out for help. A comrade requested medical assistance for the wounded soldier, but Captain Jay Brazen decided to en his suffering: he shot him in the head, arguing that he had already fought his battle for his country.
Then, Jay Brazen ordered everyone to stay alert, due to the possibility that they were not alone on the island. As they walked, they found a cave and, outside of it, statues of gods. One soldier asked if it was something Roman or Greek, but jay Brazen denied that possibility, pointing out that they were in the Pacific and adding that, without a doubt, it had been lost of a thousand years
He then remarked that there were no signs of enemies, but that he would a look for safety. He entered the cave and was attacked by a group of bats.
In the present, Tommy Brazen, grandson of Jay Brazen, awoke from a dream. In his thoughts, he recounted that he had often been dreaming of his grandfather lately. He added that Captain Jay Brazen was the toughest and coldest man he had ever known, and that he missed when his grandfather told his old war stories. Even if none of them were “true,” neither he nor his sister could ever know. Stories of lost islands in the sea, ancient temples, living gods. Although it sounded like madness, he admitted that it had driven his father to search for those islands in the ocean.
While recovering from his wounds, the result of an underground fight, he thought about how his ribs had healed just as he had hoped. Then he went he had won the fight, thought five hundred dollars per match was not enough for someone with a streak of six consecutive victories. He added that he needed to acept that job in the suburbs, since he required the money to get out of there and search for his father. He recalled that ever since he lost his government security job, his life had gone downhill, though at least his classified ads had yielded good results
Later, while getting dressed, he called Claire to inform her that he would arrive at her office and that he would receive half the payment once the job was completed. Tommy Brazen reached the subway and boarded the train. Eventually, he arrived at his destination. He entered the building and was greeted by Claire, who offered him some cucumber water. Tommy replied by asking if she had something stronger. Claire answered no, explaining that it reduced his number of “swimmers,” as she handed him half of the money.
In a park, Tommy Brazen approached a boy who was his friend Raback. He playfully took off his headphones, and they greeted each other warmly. While talking, Raback asked if he was alright after the fight he had last night against five assailants. Tommy replied that he was fine and added that the guy would never recover. Raback joked, saying the man looked like a squashed peanut butter sandwith.
Then, Raback showed him a picture of Chain Pain, saying that the number one contender would not be able to fight against the champion, meaning Chain Pain. In his thoughts, Tommy saw this as an opportunity to earn money and find his father. Looking at Chain Pain’s height, he thought he didn’t have the conditions to face him, but Raback told him the reward would be two thousand dollars and a championship belt, with important people among the audience. Tommy accepted the proposal but told Raback he needed him for something.
In The Burbs, at night, outside the mansion, both were in the car. Tommy said it wouldn’t take more than ten minutes. He quickly infiltrated the mansion, breaking a window, and pulled out his cane. Claire’s husband came down the stairs because of the noise, but Tommy struck him, accusing him of sleeping with his sister. Then Claire came down and, despite her injured husband, told Tommy that the other half of the money was on the bar. Tommy grabbed her by the arm and thanked her.
Inside Raback's car, he asks Tommy Brazen what he was doing there. Tommy explains that Claire hired him because her husband had been cheating on her with his secretary, and she wanted Tommy to give him what he deserved. So Tommy decided to set her husband up with his sister as his lover. Raback laughs when he hears this.
In an industrial district, an underground fight was being prepared. A large crowd of spectators eagerly awaited the beginning of the match. Meanwhile, in Tommy's locker room, Raback helped him get ready. Tommy notices a picture of Chain Pain and asks his friend if that's the man he's going to fight. Raback says yes, adding that Chain Pain has twelve wins and no losses.
Tommy Brazen then puts on a talisman, a gif from his grandfather.
In his thoughts, Tommy recalls the story behind the object. His grandfather had told him that he found the talisman on an island during the war. In fact, he was the only survivor of his squad. Some time later, Jay Brazen discovered a temple filled with artifcats and ancient rellics.
Tommy remembers that his favorite part of the story was when his granfather decided to take one of those relics with him. According to him, Jay even came face-to-face with a god, something Tommy always thought sounded completely insane.
Years later, after telling him the story, his grandfather gave the relic to Tommy for his tenth birthday. However, Tommy admits that he never truly believed the story.
Even so, there is one thing he cannot explain: sometimes the necklace glows and radiates an intense, burning heat. Years ago, that same heat even burned a symbol into Tommy's chest. To him, the mark has become a permanent reminder of his grandfather
.
The announcer introduces Tommy Brazen. As he makes his way toward the ring, the crowd boos and insults him. Shortly afterward, the announcer introduces Chain Pain.
Before the fight begins, Chain Pain's manager tells him that he plans to take half of the money earned from the match. However, this immediately angers Chain Pain. He grabs the man's head and slams it against a nearby surface. In a mocking, he tells him that he will no longer need his services.
The Fight begins
Chain Pain lands a powerful punch on Tommy's face and mocks him for agreeing to fight someone like him. He even asks Tommy what he was thinking when he accepted the match.
Moments later, both fighters crash to the ground Chain Pain tries to crush Tommy's face while continuing to taunt and insult him. Tommy Brazen desperately struggles to push him off.
As they grapple, Tommy thinks about his grandfather. In his mind, he tells him that if he was able to face a god and live to tell the tale, then he can defeat Chain Pain as well. Finally, Tommy asks his grandfather to lend him his strength.
As they grapple, Tommy thinks about his grandfather
Back in the fight, Chain Pain was using his arms to choke Tommy. However, Tommy Brazen managed to break free, grab him, and throw him several feet away. He immediately jumped on top of him and attempted to knock him out, succeeding for a brief moment.
The referee began the count. However, Chain Pain quickly got back up, grabbed the referee, and hurled him at Tommy. Fortunately, Tommy managed to dodge him.
Then, Chain Pain ripped one of the bars from the cage surrounding the ring and tried to strike Tommy with it. However, Tommy successfully disarmed him and landed a powerful blow to his abdomen. He followed it up with a punch to the face and continued attacking with the metal bar before delivering a devastating kick to Chain Pain's face.
Chain Pain also seemed to be affected by the strange energy.
In a final attempt to regain the upper hand, Chain Pain used his chains to knock Tommy to the ground. But Tommy grabbed hold of them and, with an impossible display of strength, pulled so hard that he tore. Chain Pain in half.
The announcer was left utterly stunned by what he had just witnessed.
Meanwhile, the crowd that had been booing Tommy only moments earlier began cheering for him and chanting his name.
