Ashbury Armstrong is excited at the prospect of having her goggles work all the time, so she wakes up early and goes to see The Inventor on her own. Ashbury remarks that he reminds her of Mr. Sormon, a teacher who turned out to be the Cyborg, but before she can finish her sentence, the Inventor kidnaps her. Scorn wakes and is immediately worried to find Ashbury absent. He and the Man of Steel sprint to the Inventor's laboratory, where both Ashbury and the Inventor are missing, but they find Ashbury's glasses. Cerimul is approached by "Superman" just as he is about to give a speech addressing the Inventor's promises. "Superman" seizes him and hurls him from his tower, killing him. Superman notices his powers beginning to dwindle, as Kandor exists within a pocket universe with no true sun to empower him. Suddenly he is surrounded by Peacekeepers, who have come to arrest him for murder. Scorn comes to the Man of Steel's aid, but the brawl halts the moment he learns of his father's death. Despite the fact that Superman never left Scorn's sight, he surrenders himself, true to his belief in truth and justice. With Superman under arrest, the Inventor walks in, with Cerimul dead, the people of Kandor have chosen him as their new leader. He sends Superman to the dungeon along with Ashbury. While delivering his first speech, the Inventor swears to free Kandor from its bottled existence. As he speaks, his appearance shifts, revealing his true form: the Cyborg Superman.
