Clark Kent finds Jimmy Olsen is reading a Captain Marvel comic he got from Editor-in-Chief Perry White and says that he understands that Captain Marvel is either from a different universe or a ridiculous looking hero at minimum. Despite this, he wants to do a piece (if he shows up) to see if he's as powerful as Superman! Clark soon hears a nearby brake squeal and runs into a closet to become Superman and stop two trains from colliding… but finds that he's got Captain Marvel's suit on! What's worse, his normal super-senses are… no longer working! He soon finds he still has comparable powers enough to save the two trains. Everyone on the trains are happy to be alive… but sure are confused by how he looks now… He recalls his team-ups with him before and how Mary Marvel probably had a crush on him and figures this probably has something to do with him and leaves. Once he does, Mr. Mxyzptlk, the Imp of the 5th Dimension laughs at having pulled this off with the help of a certain silent partner. Superman hooks off the Rock of Eternity twice, which sends him to Earth-S, and finds that Earth-S's New York City is remarkably similar to Metropolis, DE. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel (in a Superman outfit) stopping the River-Rat Gang, a group of speedboat-riding criminals. Similarly, cops are confused when he drops goons off and is wearing something else, but accept that he's still doing the hard work. He soon finds Superman is there as well and that they've swapped both costumes and powers. Superman decides to call SHAZAM, which turns him back into Clark Kent, and nearly falls off a building, only for Captain Marvel to catch him. He warns him about saying SHAZAM (which turns Clark Kent back into Captain Marvel again.) They stop a mugger and soon decide to head back to Billy's place at the Potter House, only to be attacked by wild green tentacles coming out of a garbage can. They're both shocked to find it's nearly as strong as them and Captain Marvel uses some heat-vision to try to stop it, but only angers the creature further and gets him thrown through a grocery store window. Superman lays hard into the creature, making it back off and Captain Marvel returns to smash it to pieces with a sonic clap. Superman figures that since he only has a few very specific weaknesses, there's probably magic at hand and Mr. Mxyztplk makes himself known, saying that he's trapped Superman there for fun. Superman mentions Mr. Mxyzptlk's weakness is tricking him into saying his name backwards, which is no easy feat usually and he's honestly pretty tired now, so he heads back to see if Ma Potter made some crepes. Clark enjoys some tasty crepes and says he'll likely figure out a way to stop Mr. Mxyzptlk soon enough, but that it won't likely be solved until he gets around to it. Below the Potter House though, Mr. Mxyzptlk is speaking with his “silent partner”... Mr. Mind! Mr. Mind snickers that they'll both have tormenting fun for years… if they live that long!
