As Moira McTaggart watches, two children, Bobbie and Mary Campbell, are carried away in a bubble, and she follows them as the bubble enters the blinding light behind her. The next day, Scott Summers and Sean’s search of the island has found no trace of those who attacked him the night before. Sean decides that, with Charles Xavier in space, Scott is the next best mutant to turn to. He explains events from the beginning. First, the Muir islanders felt a sense of foreboding. Then, one night, Sean was awakened by an unnatural light, and found Moira McTaggart in the corridor, slumped against the wall with no memory of how she got there. Scott interjects, telling him sleepwalking is normal, but Sean insists that it was unusual. As his tale continues, he says how he woke one morning after rain to find Moira’s shoes covered in mud, and her again saying she hadn’t left the room. He followed the footprints, and found they cut off on the beach, and he couldn’t track them further. Suddenly, they are interrupted by Moira herself, who says that Mary Campbell is ill. At the Campbell house, Moira examines Mary, who seems to be suffering from some kind of fever. She agrees with Dr McKinnon that she needs to go to hospital, and is to be taken there soon. Scott talks to her brother, Bobbie, who tells him that the people in the lights are responsible. He asks about the lights, but has to help Dr McKinnon move Mary first. That night, Scott senses Moira get up as a ball of light gets into the room. He fires an optic blast at it, just before it was to fire one at him. As Moira leaves the building, summoned, Scott breaks into Sean’s room, but cries out in alarm at what he finds. Meanwhile, Moira has walked into the light on the beach. There, she stands before Master Mold and tells him his plan is proceeding. He announces that he plans to remove mutation from all mutants on earth!
