On the "wild, wild planet" of Leone-5, three gunmen working for Tommy Tomorrow try to coerce Jonah Hex into rejoining the Planeteers. However, they are taken out by three children landing on them: Superboy, Robin, and Al-X the Green Lantern cadet (still dressed as Tarantula). The boys introduce themselves and return Jonah's robotic hand (shot off by the gunmen) to him. He recognizes them as escapees from Takron-Galtos, but agrees to take them to a place a few days' ride away from which they can leave the planet and return home. After several thrilling off-panel adventures, the group makes camp not far from their destination: a heavily guarded train station on the outskirts of Engine City, whose trains are rumored to go almost anywhere in the universe. Jonah explains that he used to work on those trains, before General Tomorrow recruited him as a soldier. After he'd had his fill of war, Tomorrow agreed to let him retire to Leone-5 on the condition that he stay where the Planeteers could find him if they ever needed him again, which it seems they now do. Although Al-X offers to reprogram him so he can leave the planet, Jonah says that he likes the life he's built for himself and doesn't feel that he's redeemed himself enough to deserve freedom. Damian explains that he was also programmed to kill and never wanted freedom until his family and friends showed him what was possible, but Jonah disagrees that their situations are analogous. On his ship, Rex Luthor thanks the Gang for keeping the plan on track while he was distracted chasing the Super Sons and Joker Jr., and rallies his Injustice Army for the assault on Earth. Back on Leone-5, the group plans their break-in at Gravedigger Terminal. Jon is affecting a bad Old West accent, to Damian's annoyance. He and Damian fly off to clear out the guards at a less-defended gate, while Al-X continues to try to argue Jonah into coming with them, but is unsuccessful. Instead, he knocks Jonah out with a pipe so he can reprogram him nonconsensually. Jon and Damian fight their way to the train, agreeing along the way that they'll deal with the Rex Luthor situation themselves rather than involving their dads. While Damian tinkers with the engine, Jon gets shot by a much larger guard robot wielding a giant rotary machine gun. He is soon saved from the assault by Jonah, now reprogrammed and willing to come with them. The four board the train and depart.
