Nicholas Lucien was an enemy of the Batman of Earth-Two, but he never achieved his dream of defeating the Dark Knight. After Lucien's last defeat at the hands of Batman and Robin, he fell into a coma for decades. When he finally recovered, he realized that Batman has died upon being told by his cellmate Joker. His thirst for revenge was not satisfied. For this reason, Lucien used his inner powers to possess his Earth-One counterpart, who was an honest businessman, and he started a plot to kill the Batman of that Earth. Batman becomes aware of the presence of Lucien and just like his Earth-Two counterpart, he defeats Lucien without much trouble. The shock is too great and Lucien's mind return to his old body on Earth-Two where it remains for the rest of its days. Despite the strange events, Batman knows that he has perhaps defeated the greatest threat he, or others like him, have ever faced.

Dick Giordano takes the reader through a typical day, minute by minute, of a comic book executive editor.
An editorial posed by Bat-Mite to the editors as to why he wasn't included in this issue, and that he should get his own series, before he's "erased" off the page by an artist. Bat-Mite then comments that it wasn't funny as to his "erasure."
In Gotham, a group of terrorists attacks a hospital holding their leader Miklos. The fanatics intend to kill themselves and as many others as they can. James Gordon gets quick help from Batman and his new team of superheroes, the Outsiders, who take down the terrorists.

The story explains how 2 different personas for Brimstone exist: Both aware somehow of each others' existences on a spiritual level. In 1955, on Earth-2, Brimstone's defeated by Batman and sent to prison, but later transfers his 'spiritual' essence to his doppelganger on Earth-1 in 1983 to restart his criminal empire. He learns of a Batman on this world, but is also defeated here by him. When his essence returns to its own body, it is a vegetable by this time, trapping him there for the rest of his natural life, while his 'good' Earth-1 counterpart is unaware of what happened.
