The Master shows up at the Department H headquarters and Alpha Flight runs him off. Later, several versions of the Master appear and battle each member of Alpha Flight separately. It turns out that these are "semi-organic synthoids" designed to test Alpha Flight and not the Master after all.
Alpha Flight discovers that by going back in time and convincing Jimmy Hudson not to confront Jerry Jaxon in New York, they have changed the timeline and find themselves facing an army of Box robots created by Jaxon. Sasquatch does the math and decides to send Centennial back in time again, this time to convince Hudson to make the trip to face off with Jaxon hoping this will fix the time conundrum. This works to an extent as the Box robots in the present disappear but they are replaced by a corrosive acid rain that threatens to melt all of Canada.
After convincing Guardian to go to New York and defeat Jerry Jaxon, Alpha Flight discovers that this new divergent timeline results in the destruction of Canada by Plodex aliens and nuclear fire. Nemesis sends Zuzha back in time to convince Guardian to return to Canada instead of calling the old Alpha Flight to New York where they were destined to become hugely popular and remain in the U.S., thus causing Canada to go kaput. In the future, the new timeline created by her instructions have Nemesis being confronted by the Canadian Militia for a Super-Hero Free Country.
Nemesis creates a future in which Guardian decides to take over the world. As new Alpha Flight battles old Alpha Flight, Sasquatch asks Shaman to fix the timeline by using his magic powers as Walter's solutions haven't worked. Shaman traps the old team in his medicine pouch and the new team returns to the "real" present right before they decided to muck about with the time stream. Sasquatch opens Shaman's pouch up and the old Alpha Flight comes tumbling out. So now with time unaltered, the old and new Alpha Flights are united as one.
Vindicator and Shaman rush Puck to the hospital. Shaman uses his Sarcee magic powders to stabilize his condition, but it is his skills as a surgeon that ultimately saves his life.
While Shaman labors to save Puck, Vindicator ruminates over the circumstances that brought Marrina into Alpha Flight's fold.
Flashback:<br> :Eighteen years ago, fisherman Tom Smallwood) fell from the deck of his trawler during a massive rainstorm. Mired down by his fishing nets, he began to sink to the bottom of the sea. However, his attention caught sight of a glowing green egg, and he was able to snatch it up and use it to buoy himself to the water’s surface.
:Taking the egg home with him, he showed it to his wife, Gladys). The egg hatched, bringing forth an infant aquatic life form. Naming her, Marrina, the Smallwoods took the child into their home and raised her as one of their own.
:By age sixteen, Marrina's aquatic super-powers fully developed. The Smallwoods found that she could not only survive indefinitely underwater, but could swim at speeds in excess of 800 knots per hour.
:Within a short time, the administrators of Department H) discovered Marrina's existence and James Hudson personally recruited her into the Beta Flight) program. Marrina excelled as a member of Beta Flight and within a span of four months was ready to become a full-fledged Alphan.
The rest of Alpha Flight gathers together aboard the Omnijet and begins tracking Marrina's path via the signal device located in her locket. She swims to the North Pole where she arrives at a frozen glacier facility. Rising up out of the water, Marrina finds herself in the presence of a costumed man who calls himself the Master).
