In Earth's orbit above Lotkill, New York, the Scarlet Witch hovers as the dimensional scanning station Skypiercer hurtles toward her home after being shattered by a concussive-force dimension. Below, Darcy Lewis evacuates civilians while Quicksilver prepares to rescue the station's crew of clerics. Scarlet Witch uses her magic to insulate the crew from re-entry before disintegrating the Skypiercer atom by atom and shunting it into the Quantum Realm, while Quicksilver creates a vortex to cushion the falling clerics. After Quicksilver quips about "cleaning up her messes," Darcy presents the twins with a package addressed to them in Magneto's handwriting. Wanda uses a hex to unlock the ornate metal box and discovers a letter inside, which she reads in silence before Pietro demands to know its contents. When Wanda tells him the letter is "not for your eyes" and burns it, Pietro becomes enraged, accusing her of treating him like a child and questioning whether she know what's best when she has a chaos god within her soul. The siblings engage in a heated argument about their history of manipulation-Pietro accusing Wanda of world-altering instability, Wanda reminding him of how he goaded her into changing reality-before Pietro speeds away without resolving the conflict. As Quicksilver races across the planet in fury-passing Monet, Luna, and Speed without stopping-Scarlet Witch uses token-object reading psychometry on the shattered box pieces to determine who sent it. She experiences a vision of an "endless" abyss-like entity that makes all her heroic work feel "pointless," and realizes the box was "a bomb meant to destroy her family" by a power "greater than Magneto's" that wants the twins separated. Quicksilver's journey is interrupted when synthetic soldiers in dark armor shoot him with an anti-gravity pellet, sending him floating toward orbit "for a freezing, suffocating death". At the Emporium, the Wizard and his army of synthetic soldiers called the Frightful Four Hundred arrive and shoot Wanda with a memory-erasing dart that prevents her from remembering protective spells. The Wizard claims he has "seen an angel" and witnessed a "grand design" where Wanda's chaos "simply can't be allowed." After Scarlet Witch battles the Wizard-swallowing his fire and confronting him about who sent him-the Wizard uses his powers to seemingly transform the Emporium into a massive pool of water, leaving Wanda and Darcy in mortal danger.
