Johnny Blaze wakes beside a campfire, rescued from the spider Arenea by the magician Zeb. Zeb hands him a drink as they discuss their next problem: the Hood. The new Ghost Rider interrupts a meeting of one of Chicago’s crime families, gunning down Gretel Wagner’s mafia in their restaurant. Hellmuth and her coven enter to feed upon the fallen and clear the scene, while the Rider takes Gretel wrapped in his chains. He brings her to his hideout, the Meat Locker, where he reverts to his human form, suffering from the transition and vomiting a black bile. Johnny Blaze lets a similar spew loose near he and Zeb’s campfire, feeling an emptiness without the spirit of vengeance within. Zeb senses a residue of the spirit, before they are beset by a pack of wolves. Parker’s ex-girlfriend Sara meets him with their daughter Bree in a high-rise apartment in Chicago. Untrusting of his mysterious return, Sara has her guard up as Parker tenders her years of child support with interest and hands her the keys to the apartment, claiming it is now hers. In the woods, Zeb and Johnny fight against the attacking wolves, Blaze making his way toward his shotgun before a wolf bites down on his shoulder. Zeb blasts the wolf attacking his ally, and Blaze channels his lingering hellfire through his shotgun to finish off the others. In Chicago’s international port, a dockhand suffers severe burns as he attempts to open a container of human organs for black market controller Bao Phi. The shipping container erupts in flames and the Ghost Rider walks out, killing Bao Phi’s men and taking him hostage. The Rider sits in the Meat Locker with two of Chicago’s five crime bosses in chains, feeling unstoppable.
