Ka-Zar is investigating a plague that has hit the Savage Land in doing so he discovers a father and son fighting where the son kills his father from the madness the plague inflicted upon him. After knocking out the son Ka-Zar notices a plane coming to land. Ka-Zar quickly starts a stampede of mammoths to prevent the plane from landing, believing outsiders to be the cause of the sickness inflicting the Savage Land. Inside the plane, Professor Clement, his daughter, Ka-Zar's cousin Mr. Chauncewell, and Chauncewell's Lawyer are coming to meet with Ka-Zar. While their plane is diverted Professor Clement tells the passengers the story of Ka-Zar's father first coming to the Savage Land and that when Lord Plunder returned to the prehistoric locale he came with his young son to escape agents of a foreign power but that Lord Plunder was killed by a group of Neanderthals called Man-Apes and how the young Kevin Plunder befriended the last of the sabretooth tigers named Zabu which made him become known as Ka-Zar, Son of the Tiger in the Savage Land. Mr. Chauncewell could only conclude that his cousin must be a savage after hearing the tale. Meanwhile Ka-Zar took the inflicted Dharu back to his village to inform them that he killed his father. The village told Ka-Zar that there was potentially a cure to be found by another group living in the Savage Land and that he should seek them out. On his way Dharu's sister, Rhyla, met up with Ka-Zar to assist him on his mission but during so they were accosted by a thunder-lizard, a Tyrannosaurus rex.
