Creator Lineage
'Creator Lineage' refers to the historical valuation premium associated with issues written or drawn during a specific, collector-recognized creative run (e.g. a particular writer or artist's tenure on a title). Comparable to a fund manager's track record commanding a premium independent of the fund's current holdings, a run's creator lineage can elevate valuations across an entire run of otherwise-ordinary issues, independent of whether any single issue in that run is a landmark key issue.
In actively managed funds, a manager's demonstrated historical track record is itself treated by investors as a valuation input distinct from the fund's current holdings, commanding a premium (or discount) tied to that individual's reputation.
Real-World Comic Market Application
Issues from a run widely regarded as a creator's definitive, industry-defining work on a title tend to command a premium over otherwise-comparable issues from a different, less collector-recognized run of the same title.
Domain Guardrails & Anti-Patterns
Do not apply a general creator-lineage premium to a specific issue without checking whether that specific issue is actually part of the recognized run in question -- lineage premiums are run-specific, not creator-wide.
