Raw Copies
'Raw' comics are copies in their original, unencapsulated paper form that have never been submitted to a certification service -- there is no independently verified grade or public certification record behind them, only the seller's own condition claim. Panel Profits treats raw holdings as a distinct, lower-confidence asset class from certified slabs: raw sales inform pricing only as weaker signal data, never as inputs to certified-tier FMV benchmarks.
A bearer or unregistered instrument carries no independently verified, publicly recorded ownership or condition history, in contrast to a registered, book-entry security whose status is confirmed and tracked by a recognized third party.
Real-World Comic Market Application
A raw copy of a key issue listed as 'VF/NM, looks like an easy 9.0' carries no certification number or public grading record, unlike a CGC 9.0 slab of the same issue, which does.
Domain Guardrails & Anti-Patterns
Do not price raw copies using certified-tier FMV benchmarks. Do not treat a seller's self-assessed grade on a raw copy as a verified condition claim.
