Sympathy Rally (Sympathy Move)
In Panel Profits, a sympathy rally is a price uptick in a comic key issue driven by strongly positive news about a closely related peer asset -- most often another key issue from the same creative team, era, or shared-universe storyline -- with no catalyst specific to the rallying issue itself. It differs from a spillover effect mainly in framing: a sympathy rally emphasizes peer-comparison-driven buying, while a spillover effect emphasizes a direct causal narrative link.
A sympathy rally, or sympathy play, occurs when a security's price rises in response to positive news about a different, related company or security -- typically a close competitor, supplier, or peer in the same sector -- rather than in response to any news specific to the rallying security itself.
Real-World Comic Market Application
A record auction result for one Silver Age creator's signature key issue can trigger a sympathy rally in that same creator's other, otherwise-quiet key issues from the same era, purely on peer-comparison buying.
Domain Guardrails & Anti-Patterns
Do not treat a sympathy rally as confirmation of new information specific to the rallying asset -- by definition, a sympathy rally is a peer-driven price move with no dedicated catalyst of its own, and it is more prone to fading once the peer's catalyst-driven attention passes.
