Jim's horse instinctively turns and carries him home, where Jim gives his last words to his nephew, Chet, who cannot understand them. Chet furthermore finds that Jim's home has been robbed, so Sheriff Katherine and her deputy, Jess Sayers, are called with request to investigate.

Katherine and Jess want to question Jim's employer, Bixby Fanshaw, but Bixby's got no time for them even if the sheriff is the respected Kit Colby, as he's too busy wooing potential customers with the fact he plans to enter the real estate business and convert the ranch into housing areas with free, ailment healing drinking water. Kit and Jess decide to keep investigating without his cooperation and find a crate that was stolen from Jim's house. Bixby threatens to shoot Kit and Jess, but good sense overtakes him, and he allows the two to continue their investigation.

Kit and Jess go to the train station to find what was originally in the crates from shipping records. Masked bandits break in to steal said records, making away with what they came for despite Kit and Jess's efforts, as there are simply too many of them for the two to take down in time. Kit is able to learn that Bixby was twice jailed in Texas for fraud, however.

Kit and Jess proceed to investigate the geysers Bixby claims are the source of his life saving water, finding that the water does not come from his property but is being piped in from elsewhere. Gun men attack the sheriff and her deputy, but the two cannot be stopped, and further discover that the healing chemicals are neither natural to the pumped in water, nor as healing as claimed. With Bixby once again caught making fraudulent claims, all that's left to do is figure out how he killed Jim, which Jess discovers after searching Bixby's sleeves. | Appearing3 = **Featured Characters:** * Kit Colby) **Supporting Characters:** * Deputy Jess Sayers **Antagonists:** * Bixby Fanshaw, Fountain of Youth Real Estate Company arrested ** at least four henchmen arrested **Other Characters:** * Rancher Jim Gregg * Chet, Jim's nephew * railroad station-master * town pharmacist **Locations:** * Western United States ** Moon Bow ** Gregg Ranch ** Fanshaw Ranch ** Crater Mountain **Vehicles:** * Fanshaw's Tour Bus * Passenger Train
