| StoryTitle3 = Kit Colby: "The Mystery of the Vanishing Prospector!" | Synopsis3 =Sheriff Katherine comes across an old miner on horseback being chased by four armed riders, and takes to the Overland Trail to even the odds a bit. Sheriff Kit Colby proves too tough for the outlaws, but one pauses before fleeing to punch the old man, vowing to finish off "Peters" later. Pop Peters at first tells Kit not to worry about him, but thinks better of it and tries to say "thank you", deciding he will find a way to pay her back for saving his life.

Within a week, Peters is dead, but Kit Colby turns out to be only name in the miner's will, leaving her with a hundred thousand dollars. Pop's lawyer, Barton Reed, suspects that Kit may be owed even more money, as all of the ore Peters mined has not yet been assayed. He goes off to do just that, promising to deposit what's rightfully Kit's in her account when he's finished. Kit plans to take a vacation, then build a home for aged miners, in Pop's honor.

Mister Hardy, the banker at Moon Bow, is happy for Kit, but Mayor Weems and Banker Collins refuse to accept that Pop Peters left Kit so much in his will. They insist that Kit's money was stolen from Edgemont Bank. Kit sends Jess for lawyer Barton Reed, but Reed refuses to show Pop's will, so the mayor asks Kit to submit to arrest. Kit refuses, determined to figure out how she's being framed. She breaks a lamp and slips out on a horse in the darkness. Jess uses the shadows to sucker punch Barton.

No one in Canyon City knows Pop Peters, so Kit abandons that lead and focuses on stalking Barton. She then contacts Jess, who is still hoping she'll be proven innocent, to lay a trap for Barton.

News the Canyon City sheriff believes there is evidence of Kit Colby's innocence leads Barton to try and destroy some, but Kit tackles him in the process. A fist fight becomes a gun fight, and Barton loses both. He calls his gang for help but they step into a trap Kit has laid and end up tied up. Barton flees, but with his Doc Peters disguise and will as evidence, Kit is cleared, and a posse is now after Barton.
