Reading this edition’s market
Compare the same cover, printing and grade before setting a bid. A raw guide or a higher-grade price does not establish a slab’s value. Include selling fees, shipping and the depth of completed-sale evidence when assessing an exit price.
The table includes 8 guide observations and 0 catalog references. These are reference values, not guaranteed sale proceeds.
Graded population
CGC records 19 graded copies for Mystery in Space #27 (1955). Population is the number recorded by this grading source, not the total print run or all surviving copies.
The Human Fishbowl
Martians use hydro-magnetic waves to bring patches of water from Earth up to them, along with several unlucky humans caught in them. The Martians plan to invade Earth due to discovering metal deposits in the water that can be used to make weapons, and since they don’t have any water on Mars they needed to test its properties first. However, the Martians were unaware of water pressure, causing their unprotected spaceships to be crushed at the bottom of the sea.
| StoryTitle2 = Mystery of the Runaway Meteor | Synopsis2 = Rav Handly has long waited to uphold family tradition by joining the space-navy, but ends up being assigned to meteor patrol instead of a fighting unit. While trying to mark a meteor out near Jupiter with a warning glow to keep travellers away from it, he notices that the meteor is moving erratically and heading straight for the Moon.
Boarding the meteor, Rav discovers that it is actually the concealed ship of a warrior race called the Ilaviume from the Andromeda Galaxy. Rav manages to escape back to his rocket and ram the meteor to drag it away.
| StoryTitle3 = Rip Van Winkle of Space | Synopsis3 = In the year 2060, Space-ambulance driver Hal Carter finds a man frozen but still alive in space, who upon being woken up claims to be Captain Burton, from the first attempted spaceflight to Mars in 1960. Though he plays his role of being amazed at modern technology well, Carter eventually unmasks him as Ross Burke, a criminal who had faked his death recently. Carter had known something was wrong due to Burke not having marks from the vaccine injections that astronauts were mandated to have in that era.
| StoryTitle4 = Interplanetary Parcel of Peril | Synopsis4 = While on Mercury, Space Cabbie finds a parcel in his cab that’s making an unnerving ticking noise and is marked to be kept cool at all times. While trying to track down who owns the package, Space Cabbie has several problems keeping the package cool, such as having a Flame-Man from Vulcan as a passenger and his cab's atomic motor overheating.
After going down his list of previous clients, the package is finally claimed by Dan Crouse on the ice-planet Khip Vool. It turns out that what Space Cabbie assumed was a bomb was actually Dan Crouse's pet cricket, which gets agitated when it’s hot.

| Notes = * "Mystery of the Runaway Meteor" implies that at least two "Solar Wars" happened between the 20th and 22nd Century. * "Rip Van Winkle of Space": written in 1955, the story is set on 2060 and implies that: humans wear an indestructible Id-tag from the birth since 1988; the first interplanetary war began January 15, 1998; moving sidewalks are reality on the streets of future; people wear personal jet packs to fly; both Mars and Venus are inhabited by human colonizers; In the future, vaccination with an electronic instrument will not leave skin marks. * "Interplanetary Parcel of Peril": ** Space Cabbie is not affected by Mercury's noxious atmosphere. Perhaps in his time (22nd century) Mercury has, due to some device or terraformation, an atmosphere that allow humans to survive, but this is not shown. It also appears that Cabbie may have some superhuman power to withstand (barely) Mercury's tremendous heat, which reaches 430°C (800°F) during the day. ** Khip Vool is a wordplay with "Keep Cool". | Trivia = | Recommended = | Links =
