Reading this edition’s market

I Come from the Shadow World!

A creature arrives as an advance scout from the shadow world to determine if Earth is ripe for takeover. No human weapons can stop him until an electrician has a story about a new device planted in a newspaper to attract its attention. When he infiltrates the military base where the device is being kept he is contemptuous that it is a mere harmless glass tube, but it was merely bait to get him inside a room filled with lights built into all surfaces that go on simultaneously and destroy the creature.

The ship steward offers to give it a go, and the eggheads reluctantly agree, thinking he will certainly fail when their superior minds could not figure it out. The steward realizes that it is a treadmill that moves backwards at exactly the same speed the occupant attempts to move forward that prevents one from reaching the opposite door, and thus the Martians agree to trade and the steward becomes the ambassador to Mars.
