My Greatest Adventure #53

Price history & market evidence

Price observations belong to this edition. Guide estimates, catalog references and completed sales are separate kinds of evidence.

Reading this edition’s market

Compare the same cover, printing and grade before setting a bid. A raw guide or a higher-grade price does not establish a slab’s value. Include selling fees, shipping and the depth of completed-sale evidence when assessing an exit price.

The table includes 8 guide observations and 1 catalog references. These are reference values, not guaranteed sale proceeds.

Graded population

CGC records 15 graded copies for My Greatest Adventure #53 (1961). Population is the number recorded by this grading source, not the total print run or all surviving copies.

I, Creature Slayer

An amateur explorer exploring one of the remotest parts of the world is entranced to enter a cave by a cylinder emitting strange fumes. The fumes cause him to hallucinate that he's Hercules fighting the Hydra, then Odin fighting the Midgard Creature, and then Sir Lancelot fighting a dragon.

Upon exiting the cave, the explorer comes face-to-face with a fourth monster, but with sudden courage he tricks it into knocking a tree down on himself. The explorer goes back into the cave and finds a note written by a wizard name Herbertus explaining that a monster appears in this spot every 1,000, so the wizard used mystic arts to insure that the explorer had the courage to defeat it.

| StoryTitle2 = I Freed the Savage Invaders | Synopsis2 = During an archeological dig in Persia, Dr. Rivers and his team open up a sealed cave and discover a group of preserved ancient warriors inside. King Dacius of Tyran still plans on sieging the city of Jaharan, capturing Dr. Rivers as well as his own nephew Luca when he expresses trepidation.

Jaharan is now defended by people with guns, but they prove ineffective against the army's steel armour and their siege weapons bring down the city's walls. Luca manages to free Dr. Rivers from his cage and he tries to shoot at the army, triggering an avalanche when he hits their catapult. The entire army is crushed, including Luca, who gives his life to save Dr. Rivers.

| StoryTitle3 = I Was a Referee of the Alien Creatures | Synopsis3 = An archeologist stumbles upon the ruins of an unknown ancient civilisation and is threatened by an alien named Zarn, who demands to be given a map he think the archeologist has found. Suddenly another alien shows up named Tog and begins fighting over the map with Zarn. The archeologist tries to run away during their fight, but the two aliens catch up to him and force him to be their referee.

Trapped in a forcefield arena, Tog uses his power to create illusory monsters, but Zarn is victorious after using his breath to freeze Tog solid. Zarn demands the archeologist give him the map, and the archeologist suddenly realises that the map is a mural that has faded with time. With the map gone, the two aliens shake hands and depart as friends.
