Reading this edition’s market

Compare the same cover, printing and grade before setting a bid. A raw guide or a higher-grade price does not establish a slab’s value. Include selling fees, shipping and the depth of completed-sale evidence when assessing an exit price.

The table includes 9 guide observations and 1 catalog references. These are reference values, not guaranteed sale proceeds.

Where Lurks the Menace?

A villain known as the Terror combs the city seeking revenge on those that have betrayed him. Jack Ryder walks in on the Terror just as he is about to silence an informant named Jurgens. Ryder tangles with the Terror but he escapes. Unfortunately his contact Jurgens dies as a result of the attack. Before dying, Jurgens mentions the names Gerk Kreg, Vance Cleary and Hack Axley. He also utters the words “She knows”. The villain goes on to terrorize a group of thugs as he seeks a share of their racket earnings. In the meantime Ryder is charged with playing nursemaid to the local weather girl named Vera Sweet. Ryder is annoyed that he has to watch over her but takes it in stride. Ryder resumes his investigation in his guise as the Creeper. He is amazed at the new powers that he has acquired as a result of a serum given to him by professor Yatz. He takes on the gang of thugs while looking for Gerk Kreg. He notes his incredible stamina as well as his quick reflexes. He also discovers that his hair and makeup are a part of him and cannot be removed as long as his powers are activated. After the tussling is over, Ryder decides to call on Axeley at his office. Axeley is not receptive to Ryders visit and asks him to leave. Ryder however discovers that Axeley employs a lawyer named Cleary as well as a secretary named Ida and a right hand man by the name of Forbes. Ryder is reminded that he should be looking after Vera Sweet. He escorts her back to her apartment where they are attacked by the Terror. Ryder tangles with the menace but discovers that he is not as strong as when he switches to his alter ego. He pursues the villain but quickly changes into the Creeper. He fights the Menace but the villain manages to escape. The Creeper then heads back to Axeley's office but discovers that he has been beaten to death. The Creeper suspects that the secretary Ida might have more information as to why Axeley was killed. The Creeper then realizes that the secretary could possibly be the key to solving his mystery. He recalls Jurgens final words “She knows”. The Creeper suspects that the She might be referring to Ida the secretary. The Creeper immediately goes to confront Ida Horn. He accuses her of knowing the Terrors identity. As he is talking to Ida, the Creeper notices a puddle of water next to the curtains. The Terror jumps out from the drapes and attacks. As the two tangle with each other, Ida the secretary joins in the fight. During the altercation, the Creeper manages to unmask the Terror and discovers his identity as Forbes. Forbes had been Axeley's right hand man but he had betrayed Axeley in an effort to takeover his crime empire. The Creeper quickly subdues both of them and hands them over to the authorities when they arrive. The Creeper then switches back to his identity as Jack Ryder as he arrives at his apartment. He is then greeted by Vera Sweet who is furious that Ryder had abandoned her and left her unprotected. Ryder scares her off as he laughs at her while sitting on the couch.
