| Notes = | Trivia = * The Puppet Mister resembles Howdy Doody, a cowboy puppet character whose show ran from 1947 to 1960. He mentions having a TV show with "Buffalo Blob," a reference to Buffalo Bob who was host of the Howdy Doody Show. * The parodies of non-Marvel characters in the bleachers of "Casey at the Bat" include: **The Captain from the comic strip The Katzenjammer Kids **The Spirit **Commissioner Dolan **Mickey Mouse **Lil Abner **Uncle Creepy **Cousin Eerie **Albert Alligator from the comic strip "Pogo" **Popeye **Archie Andrews **Dagwood Bumstead from the comic strip "Blondie" **Scrooge McDuck * Bulk's scream knocks over Beetle Baily and Sgt. Snorkle while Little Orphan Annie and Daddy Warbucks look on, and later uses a parody of Batman as a bat while a parody of Robin looks on. * The teams showing up to the baseball stadium at the end are parodies of characters from "Pogo" and "Peanuts." Pogo's team is carrying a banner saying "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better," a reference to the phrase from George Orwell's *Animal Farm*. * The Green Hornet TV show was canceled March 1967, more than a year before the release of this issue. * The shows that Mean Hornet and Plato try to get jobs on are parodies of *Star Trek*, *I Spy*, and *Lone Ranger*. * Bob Culprit and Bill Costly are parodies of *I Spy**s Robert Culp and Bill Cosby. * The old people in robes that Arch meets are intended to be the horror hosts of EC Comics, Crypt-Keeper, Vault-Keeper, and Old Witch. Arch mentioning that they've been out of work for 13 years is a reference to the fact that the last EC horror titles were canceled in 1955. * The singing Golden Harp is Elvis Presley, whose songs "Heartbreak Hotel," "Love Me Tender," "All Shook Up," "Don't Be Cruel," "(Let Me Be) Your Teddy Bear," "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck," and "Jailhouse Rock" are parodied in dialogue. * Donald Duck is the golden egg-laying duck, and his remark of how "he wouldn't have to do this for a living, if they still made any movie cartoons about old-timers like me" references how Disney had reduced the number of theatrical animated shorts by the 1960s (the last Donald Duck short to be released in theaters was in 1961). *Captain Mar-Vinn saying he'd better "change into [his] alter ego" leads to a footnote from Stan Lee scolding Roy Thomas for plugging his fanzine *Alter Ego*. * The Seven Deadly Enemies of Man statues are a reference to both the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man|statues from the Fawcett/DC Comics version of Captain Marvel, and Disney's Seven Dwarves. This version also references the Seven Deadly Sins with the statue Lust. * Three other references to Fawcett's Captain Marvel include Mar-Vinn wondering why he doesn't have "a magic word--like maybe 'Shazam'" and a confused Captain Marvel finding Mar-Vinn's bag of weapons. When Mar-Vinn returns to the phone later he passes by Billy Batson, who is trying to sell newspapers. This unofficial appearance of Fawcett's Captain Marvel predates DC's revival of the character by four years. | Recommended = | Links =
