Breakout!: Part 6
Tension explodes in the Savage Land when Spider-Woman) orders S.H.I.E.L.D.) agents to stand down, but the Black Widow), an independent S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, gives the order to fire. As the soldiers prepare to open fire, Iron Man) activates a magnetic field, disarming everyone and rendering weapons and keys useless. Amidst the chaos, Captain America) yells for no casualties, especially for Wolverine), who lunges toward the Black Widow. But Cap stops him with his shield, averting a tragedy. The soldiers, now disarmed and overwhelmed, flee the scene.
Spider-Woman questions the Black Widow about her orders, but she only responds, “I work for the same people you work for.” Before they can interrogate her further, the corpse of Sauron), resurrected by absorbing Wolverine’s healing factor, attacks. Iron Man and Luke Cage) manage to subdue him, and Lykos reverts to his human form. As the team tries to piece together what's happening, Iron Man detects a series of signals in the distance: S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers are exploiting the native inhabitants of the Savage Land to mine vibranium. The heroes launch into battle, but are hit by an explosion of energy from a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. The attack is precise, and only Iron Man’s energy field saves them from total destruction.
Maria Hill), the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., declares the action justified and states that the Helicarrier will return them to New York. She thanks the team for retrieving Sauron but adds, “For the record, we did ask you to stand down. You ignored us.” Back in private, Iron Man reveals that the files on the Raft were tampered with. Comparing the data to the old Avengers) database, he discovers that over a dozen prisoners have been declared legally dead but remain incarcerated. S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't just stockpiling weapons; they're stockpiling supervillains. The enemy knows the Avengers are on the trail of the truth, but they don't know who they are.
Captain America offers anyone the option to withdraw from the Avengers, but Iron Man proposes that Wolverine join the team. Cap looks at him silently, then follows him for a private word. There, Iron Man tells him that just as the original Avengers needed a key ingredient, so does this team. Cap responds, “He’s a murderer.” Iron Man retorts, “He’s a samurai. After Wanda), after what happened today, we can’t afford not to have him. We’re going to need someone to go to places we can’t.” Cap, reluctantly, agrees.
In the final scene, the Black Widow lies in a hospital bed, gravely injured. Her employer offers her a chance at vengeance against the Avengers. She accepts, ready to seek retribution.
