The Man Who Murdered Prometheus
Years past, during Mageddon)'s assault on Earth, Batman) and Martian Manhunter) had defeated Prometheus). It is revealed that Batman and the Manhunter had realized that no conventional prison could hold Prometheus, so they decided to place his mind on a constant loop. As the years passed, the Manhunter had maintained Prometheus’s mental prison, which would persist as long as the Manhunter lived...
Some unspecified length of time later, Prometheus is in Blackgate Penitentiary. A old prison guard is explaining to his young replacement that the Penitentiary has held some of the world's most deadly supervillains, and he has beaten up most of them. He intends to do the same to the comatose Prometheus, but at the same moment, Libra and the Human Flame kill the Martian Manhunter, instantly snapping Prometheus out of his vegetative state. He kills the two guards, then walks out in one of their blood-spattered uniforms, faking a nosebleed. He makes his way to a Gotham safehouse, and checks to be sure that his escape hasn't made the news. Instead, he finds that someone was active while he was in prison - someone who has stolen his name, his equipment, and his reputation.
A few days later, in Seattle, the Blood Pack) members Argus), Anima), and Gunfire) are pursuing Prometheus (Chad Graham)) over the rooftops, because he has killed one of their teammates, Hook). In desperation, Graham misjudges a jump, landing in a dumpster. As they pull Graham out of the dumpster, the original Prometheus steps out of the shadows and makes brief work of them, killing Anima, crippling Gunfire, and leaving Argus with little clue as to what just happened.
In his extradimensional headquarters, the Crooked House, Prometheus rouses Graham. It is revealed that he knows this young man. Graham is the son of one of the officers who killed Prometheus' parents. When Prometheus had come to kill Graham’s father, he found him already dead. Graham had murdered his father with his own gun, merely because Graham’s father had refused to allow Graham to play video games. Sensing a kindred spirit, Prometheus had taken Graham in, hoping to turn him into his sidekick and to mold Graham into something greater than himself. However, Prometheus cannot forgive the fact that Graham has besmirched his reputation and never tried to locate him when he went missing. Prometheus tells him why he chose the name Prometheus. He says that it was because he wanted to take fire from the "gods themselves," by which he means the superheroes. He wanted to steal their knowledge and techniques and use them against them. With that, he sets his former protégé on fire. As he watches Graham burn, Prometheus sees a silver lining to Graham’s actions. Everyone thinks he is a joke and will not see him coming. He concludes that, if the Manhunter is truly dead, the Justice League of America will never be able to stop him.
