"The Secret of Life, Part One"

Hawk), Dove), and Deadman) go to a diner where Dove and Deadman seem to be developing a connection. Hawk is unhappy with this. When the heroes finish their meal, they are suddenly transported to Silver City, New Mexico where the White Lantern Power Battery has appeared. As they arrive and approach the Lantern, it begins to glow. Hawk tries to lift the lantern, but he, like any other who has attempted to lift it, is unable to budge it. Soon, Brand tries to lift it and is shocked that he is able. Brand again hears the mysterious voice, but this time it reveals something of its nature and offers cryptic messages regarding those who have been resurrected. It tells Brand “I am the Entity and I have watched over this world from the beginning of existence. But I am dying. A replacement must be chosen. Each one of you has returned to protect this world until the arrival of its new champion.”

Nearby, Jackson Hyde) begins to feel strange and his tattoos begin to glow. The Entity) begins to speak to all the resurrected.

In the Australian Outback, Martian Manhunter) is attending to Miss Martian) who is near death. When the Entity speaks to Martian Manhunter, he begins to glow with White Energy. The Entity fills J’onn’s thoughts and tells him “burn it all down.” When Manhunter regains his senses, he sees that the White Energy has healed Miss Martian.

In Pittsburgh, Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)/Jason Rusch) speaks with Martin Stein), who chastises them for having reformed the Firestorm Matrix. They tell Stein of the voice. He reveals that he hypothesized that a third entity might be within the Matrix. He calls it the third and final stage of Firestorm. Before he can explain further, the Entity reaches out to Firestorm. It tells them “Jason Rusch of earth, you need to get your head out of the books. Ronald Raymond of earth, you need to study. Learn from each other so you can stop him. Don't let him destroy me.” In response, the voice in the Matrix tells them that they are fools to believe they can contain him. It says “soon I’ll be free to destroy the White Lantern.”

On Hawkworld, Hawkman) demands that the feline humanoids tell him where Hawkgirl) has been taken. They tell him she has been taken to a floating city in the sky. As he goes to find her, he is overtaken by the White Energy of the Entity. The entity tells him “don’t let them leave this world. Stop the queen.” The feline humanoids are shocked to see him glowing with the White Energy. They see this as a sign that he is the one from prophecy and state that he is destined to bring an end to Hawkworld.

In the floating city on Hawkworld, Hawkgirl is suspended in a floating cage. The Entity overtakes her and tells he “If you lover dies here there is no more resurrection. Save him from Hath Set.” Recovering, she is shocked to see Hath-Set) standing before her. He says that he will bring her to his queen, and it will mean Hawkgirl’s death.

Back on Earth, Mera) continues to beg for forgiveness from Aquaman), and is shocked when he gives it freely and without hesitation, telling her that they have been through too much for her revelation to change anything. Soon Orin is overtaken by the Entity. It tells him “Find him. Find him first before they do” and shows him a vision of a a boy, who unbeknownst to Orin, is Jackson Hyde. When the light recedes, the oil from the oil rig accident is cleaned from the sand and water of the beach. Even more surprising, the marine life killed by the accident are returned to life.

Elsewhere the Entity overcomes other heroes and villains that were returned to life after the Blackest Night, providing them with messages.

Captain Boomerang) is told “throw the boomerang at her.”

Jade) is told “balance the darkness, your brother will save your friends.”

Osiris) is told “free the goddess of nature; free your sister; free Isis.”

Maxwell Lord) is told “Magog) will plunge the world into war. Stop the war before it starts.”

Professor Zoom) is told “you have allowed Flash to escape the speed force. Mission accomplished; life returned.”

Hawk) is told “catch the boomerang” and shown a vision of Dove) with a boomerang piercing her chest.

Soon, the Entity speaks once again to Boston Brand telling him that he must search for the chosen one to replace the Entity.
