"All This Useless Beauty"

Martian Manhunter) arrives on Mars to finally find the only other remaining Green Martian there waiting for him. J'onn reveals that he knows her name, D'Kay D'Razz). D'Kay proposes that, since she and J'onn are the last Martians, they are destined to come together and ensure the survival of their race. Manhunter angrily rejects her proposal, dismissing her as mad, and saying he could never love one as twisted as she. D'kay grows furious with him. The two begin to fight but are evenly matched. Eventually D'kay forcibly merges her flesh and mind with J'onn. She reveals her past.

As a child, D'kay learned that some Martians telepathy was limited. Though they could read minds of others, their minds could not, in turn, be read by fellow Martians. Thus, those so afflicted were cut off from the Great Mind, the gestalt community of minds at the heart of Martian society. From a young age, D'kay pledged herself to curing this affliction. However, the cure she finally discovered was effective for some but proved fatal for others. Despite this, she forced her cure on many of the afflicted. Soon, Martian authorities learned of her crimes and imprisoned her. She was imprisoned for hundreds of years until an early test of the teleportation technology of Professor Saul Erdel) brought her to Earth. Always mentally unstable, she convinced herself that she must hide her nature fully. So, she completely subsumed her Martian physiology and memories with the form of a human, eventually even going so far as to forget she was ever a Martian. She lived in this way for years until J'onn was killed and released a psychic death rattle. J'onn continues to struggle, but D'kay's psychic power are formidable and she induces a hallucination in J'onn that the Justice League is attacking him.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)/Jason Rusch)) pursues Deathstorm) and his Black Lanterns. However, the Lamterns are soon contacted by a mysterious entity that directs them to bring the corrupted White Lantern Power Battery to him.

Elsewhere, Deadman) and Dove) begin the search for the chosen one who is to assume the mantle of the Entity.

Back on Mars, J'onn escapes the hallucination of the League attacking him. His fury rages as he attacks D'kay. Seemingly, he beats her into submission and at that exact moment, life returns to Mars. Not merely the forest but also its inhabitants, which include J'onn's wife and child. However it quickly becomes apparent that this is merely another hallucination forced upon J'onn by D'kay.
