"Aquawar, Part One"
Boston Brand) is left among the ashes of Hawkman) and Hawkgirl). He reproaches the Life Entity) telling it to bring them back and that it is madness to have brought them back only to kill them. The Life Entity refuses, saying it is part of the plan. At Boston’s insistence, the Life Entity explains further saying that his plan is to stop the Earth from turning against humanity. He explains that the Earth has been slowly poisoned for centuries by mankind, but Nekron's) attack heightened the contamination of Earth's life-web, its very soul. Soon, he claims, this corruption will rise in the form of a dark avatar and it will seek out the forest the Life Entity created in Star City, which holds the key to Earth’s salvation.
He further explains that the twelve that the Life Entity returned to life each plays a role in saving the soul of Earth. Some have already prevented further destruction and given them more time, while others ultimately are more significant to the Life Entity’s purpose. Orin), Ronnie Raymond), J'onn J'onzz), Carter Hall, and Shiera Sanders are unique. The Life Entity has placed them journeys to overcome what held them back in life. Hawkman and Hawkgirl have already succeeded by ending the cycle of reincarnation thereby purifying their essences. The others require purification as well to oppose the dark avatar. Boston states that he will no longer help, but the Life Entity tells him he has no choice.
Elsewhere, Orin and Jackson Hyde) head to oppose the Xebel forces led by Siren). Soon, they find them attacking a beach in Florida. Siren uses her powers to force them into the midst of her soldiers. There, they fight the Xebelians who have allied with Black Manta). Orin and Jackson fight against overwhelming odds until Black Manta faces Orin in single combat. Black Manta is able to sever Orin’s right hand.
