The Dawns's Early Fright!
The aftermath of the sonic separation leaves the heroes with a new problem. The device at the Ralsby Meat Packing Plant has expelled both the Carnage_(Earth-616)) and Venom_(Earth-616)) symbiotes, leaving them free to find new hosts. Their targets soon become apparent when the two creatures reach the nearby zoo. Meanwhile, Cletus Kasady) takes advantage of Flash Thompson)'s helpless condition, although the mechanical components of Flash's legs are also affected by the sonic machine. When his prosthetics suddenly fail, Kasady discovers that the symbiotic circuitry has been disrupted as well. Flash nevertheless manages to fight back, stabbing Cletus through the wrist, only for Kasady to respond with sadistic amusement before biting him.
With sunrise approaching, the heroes know they have little time left to end the crisis. Their situation becomes considerably more dangerous when the escaped symbiotes turn the zoo animals into weapons. Venom takes control of a gorilla, while Carnage spreads among numerous other creatures, creating an entire menagerie of symbiote hosts. The heroes find themselves surrounded until Scorn) arrives with a sonic weapon capable of driving the animals back.
The military prepares to launch an attack on Doverton, but the proposed strike threatens to destroy far more than the intended targets. When the authorities refuse to authorize the necessary adjustment, Captain America) assumes responsibility and redirects the operation. The resulting attack devastates portions of the town while allowing the heroes to continue their pursuit of Kasady.
At the packing plant, Kasady has once again gained control of the situation and is preparing to finish Flash when the Venom-possessed gorilla intervenes. The Venom symbiote then returns to Thompson, restoring the balance of power and allowing Flash to overpower Kasady. As the battle draws to a close, Scorn recovers a surviving fragment of the Carnage symbiote from the wreckage, describing it as a secondary objective and ominously suggesting that its troubles are far from over.
Agent Venom takes Kasady into custody, admitting that he could not bring himself to kill him. Captain America considers bringing the murderer in alive a victory, but Eric refuses to accept that Cletus should survive. He raises his shotgun against him, only for the Thing) to stop the attack. Spider-Man tries to make Eric understand that killing Kasady would make him no different from the man who destroyed his family. Eric reveals that his rage is also fueled by a loss he had never mentioned: before Carnage came to Doverton, he and Hannah had another child, Stephanie.
With Kasady secured aboard the transport, the surviving heroes survey the devastation left behind. Wolverine) questions whether their intervention accomplished anything meaningful, considering how much destruction remained and how many lives had been shattered. Hawkeye) insists that they completed their mission and saved as many people as they could. Wolverine remains unconvinced as Kasady is taken away alive, leaving the ruined Doverton as a reminder of the cost of the battle.
