Story synopsis

As Jean Grey) flees through the sewers, pursued by Weapon Omega) and his forces, the X-Terminated) struggle to catch up with her. Meanwhile, Fiend) regains consciousness after the explosion she caused as a distraction. With her leg broken, she is carried away by Horror Show), but not before she shoots Emplate) and knocks him unconscious again.

Elsewhere, Prophet) and Deadeye) meet with Penance), who gives them a weapon developed by the Sugar Man) using Death Seed energy stolen from Dark Beast)'s laboratory. The small, jellybean-like substance is designed to separate Weapon Omega from the Celestial power sustaining him. It must be ingested to trigger a chain reaction throughout his body.

At the Hellfire Club), Donald Pierce) attempts to convince Sebastian Shaw) to help him capture Jean before Omega can find her. When Shaw refuses, Pierce decides to investigate the Shadow King) instead. He approaches Fiona), one of the women employed by the club, and subtly questions her about the Shadow King's whereabouts while pretending to be concerned for her safety. Fiona reveals that she simply goes wherever Shaw sends her and tells Pierce where the Shadow King lives.

Jean fights her way through several squads of Omega's soldiers before finally encountering her husband. Weapon Omega orders her to come home, but Sabretooth) suddenly attacks him, giving Jean an opportunity to escape. As the two men battle, Prophet stops Jean from interfering and leads her away with Deadeye.

Prophet finally explains why Jean is so important to the X-Terminated. He sees her as his successor, believing she possesses the leadership qualities necessary to keep the movement united should he fall. He then gives her the weapon obtained from Penance, explaining that it should separate Omega from the Apocalypse) power from inside his body. Because Omega is too heavily protected for Deadeye to deliver it, Jean realizes that she is the only one who can get close enough to him.

Sabretooth, badly beaten by Omega, activates a device that causes a massive explosion in the tunnels. Deadeye escapes and rejoins Prophet and Jean, warning them that Omega is coming. Jean orders the others to leave, unaware that Prophet has withheld the fact that her success will result in the deaths of everyone in the city.

Meanwhile, the Shadow King receives an unexpected visit from Quentin Quire). Realizing that Quire has survived, the Shadow King is confronted by the young mutant, who declares himself the Overmind and announces his intention to overthrow the false king.
