Story synopsis
Gwenpool is feeling encouraged about the spot she is in after having just finished defeating M.O.D.O.K. in the previous issue. She is called down from her reminiscing by Batroc the Leaper who puts her on a call with M.O.D.O.K.'s enigmatic employer who wants to meet in-person now that M.O.D.O.K. is presumably dead. Gwen, Batroc, and the two other employees The Terrible Eye and Mega Tony discuss what they should do now that they no longer have an employer for their mercenary work and they elect Gwen to be their representative to M.O.D.O.K.'s employer. Gwen dresses in plainclothes and also tries to encourage her friend Cecil who is now a ghost following his death by M.O.D.O.K.
In another part of the City, Miles Morales (Spider-Man) defeats a couple of green monsters but receives a large tear in his mask during the fight. Without a mask to fully cover his face, he rushes down into the subway to get back to school as his secret identity where he runs into Gwen on the train. Gwen fan-girls over Miles and indicates she knows who he is, and as a result a shocked Miles leaves the train car and pulls her to the ceiling of the subway tunnel where Gwen lies about the origin of her powers so she won't sound crazy.
Gwen and Miles arrive at Miles' school in time to witness an explosion to happen at the building. They both suit up, with Gwen helping temporarily patch Miles' mask, and help rescue kids from the explosion. Later that evening, Gwen shows up at Miles' house, making the excuse to his parents that she is a study buddy. During this time, M.O.D.O.K.'s employer is growing impatient at Gwen's tardiness and Gwen's mercenary friends receive a threatening call from space squids (Teuthidans) that Gwen defeated previously.
