Family Matters, Part Two: All Hallows' Eve

Two Dominators have landed on Earth seeking the Phantom Ring and plotting to use it to conquer Earth.

Meanwhile, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz are walking the Halloween streets of Dearborn, Michigan with his sister Sira and nephew Farid, who is dressed as the Flash, while trying to locate the missing Guardian Rami. Unfortunately, Rami has hidden himself from their rings. Meanwhile, the Dominators watch the two Green Lanterns from the shadows, figuring they would lead them to Rami. Cruz briefly catches sight of them in the shrubs but dismisses it as a figment of her imagination. Baz resort to asking a random trio of kids if they had seen Rami to no avail, even as one teased they should ask again when the reael Green Lanterns show up. Sira points out that if Rami is so scared, he wouldn't be hiding in their neighbors' yards, but higher ground.

Rami is in fact hiding in the city clocktower, where he is staring at the Phantom Ring. In a flashback, Rami secretly creates the Phantom Ring, a ring that would accept any bearer and channel the Emotional Spectrum. But just as he finished it, he is discovered by a horrified Ganthet. In the present, Rami is pulled out of his reminiscing as Baz and Cruz located him after knocking on 25 doors in the course of their search. Rami gets upset, calling them fools for potentially leading them enemies to him and burst through the wall. Baz and Cruz give pursuit into the wood and stop the rogue Guardian with a construct; Baz boasts he grew up causing trouble in these woods, so there's no where he can hide. Rami tries asserting his authority as a Guardian to order the two Lanterns to leave him alone, only for Baz to quote the Book of Oa to justify contravening his orders in the interest of protecting his assigned sector, of which the Phantom Ring qualifies. Rami refuses to accept their help, reminding that he wanted more experienced Green Lanterns like Hal Jordan, though Cruz reminds they tried calling him and received no answer. Furthermore, he criticizes Cruz's inability to make a construct and Baz for relying on his handgun.

Suddenly, the Dominators attack and seize the box containing the Phantom Ring, but Baz quickly takes it back. As the Dominators fire on him, Cruz manages to overcome her anxiety to create a large spiraling construct to trap the aliens. As the Dominators are detained, Rami apologizes to Cruz for doubting her. While Baz calls Cyborg for help handling these aliens, Cruz offers to give the Phantom Ring back in exchange for telling them more about it. Rami confesses that the Phantom Ring is the only power ring that anyone can use, rather than choosing its bearer. In another flashback, the Guardian Tribunal is outraged by Rami's defiance of their orders and exiled him from Oa until he could find a way to destroy his creation. He tried doing so in 5612 ways, including crushing it with 12 black holes, throwing it in the Fire Pits of Apokolips, kryptonite, Nth metal, and Zeta Beams, to no avail. Cruz encourages him to try and forgive himself. She further argues that while she and Baz aren't Hal Jordan, their rings chose them for a reason, and give him a choice between striking out alone or accepting their help. The same trio of kids who were watching the battle encourage Rami to accept both Lanterns' aid.

Back at Baz's house, Cruz and Farid play a prank on two trick-or-treaters with a monster construct, sending them running scared. Inside, Baz is sitting down with Rami, promising to keep the Phantom Ring safe together, no matter who comes for it.

Meanwhile, an armed stranger is driving to Dearborn. Aware from the news that there are Green Lanterns in the city, he vows he will seize the Phantom Ring, a power ring he believes he deserves and no one will stop him from taking it.
