Autodidacte, Éric Cartier signe son premier ouvrage en 1989 (La mer à boire, scénario Naegelen). Il travaille pour le magazine Spirou et la maison d'édition Futoropolis et créera International Stakhano Association une structure de soutien aux petites maison d'édition.
