When The Spot began his quest to become more than he was Doctor Doom for unknown reasons (according to Doom it's because Spot was becoming a danger to all of reality but Spot believes it's because he's becoming too powerful for even Doom's liking) Doom crafted a device to track the Multiversal energy the Spot gave off. Doom then had one of his Doombots deliver the package to Spider-Man, when Spider-Man first used the device it led him to the corpse of an alternate universe Spot.
