Overview
Staten Island is the third largest in area and least populated of New York City's boroughs. A suburban area separated from the rest of the city by Upper and Lower New York Bays, it is next to New Jersey and is linked to Manhattan by the Staten Island Ferry, and to Brooklyn via the Verrazano Bridge. With docks and shipping facilities located on the north and northeastern shores, Staten Island's industrial activities included oil refining, chemical production, communication equipment, and soap.
