In illiquid alternative asset markets, sovereign blue-chip holdings trade at an exponential multiple over mid-grade float due to institutional accumulation and inelastic seller reservation prices.
Alan Scott is told to put a microphone in movie star Delia Day's hotel room so Irene Miller can interview her. When they arrive, they see the well-known gangster, Slug Kafey, leaving her room. Soon, the interview is in full swing, but Alan cannot get his mind off Kafey. That night, he transforms into Green Lantern and heads for Delia's hotel room only to see a group of thugs already there. Green Lantern makes short work of the criminals, and Delia reveals that her real name is Delia Maloney and that Al Maloney, the notorious racketeer, is her father. Green Lantern is told that Delia's mother left Maloney as soon as the baby was born, so she took her mother's maiden name. The thugs are working to blackmail Delia and sabotage her marriage. To find out more information, Green Lantern heads for the state prison to talk to Al Maloney. He paralyzes two alert guards and meets Maloney in his cell. Maloney says that, besides the doctor and the mother, only one other person was around at the birth: Frankie Fowler. Green Lantern leaves, but Maloney must still deal with a guilty conscience over how his life affected his daughter. The next day, Alan reads in the newspapers how Maloney faked illness and escaped prison. He becomes GL and flies over to Delia's room to find her gone, kidnapped by Fowler's men. Heading for the Pelican Club, an establishment owned by Fowler, Green Lantern sees Delia handing over the blackmail money. He interrupts the deal and quickly dispatches the thugs. His efforts are thwarted, however, when one of the men pulls a gun on Delia. Apparently, Fowler had tricked Delia into giving up the money and now plans on blackmailing her anyway. Suddenly, Al Maloney arrives and guns down Fowler. Green Lantern breaks his bonds and takes out the crooks with his ring. Maloney, mortally wounded, tells Delia how much he loves her and dies in her arms. Green Lantern forces the thugs to forget the incident, and, with the arrival of the police, grabs Delia and leaps outside the building. The next day, at Apex Broadcasting, Irene and Alan discuss last night's incident. Irene thinks of it as "just another racketeer gun fight," but Alan knows better.
