Both Kamala Khan and Nakia "Kiki" Bahadir browse the shelves at Circle Q where Bruno Carrelli works. A jolly Zoe Zimmer proudly enters the shop with Josh Richardson. While in the shop, Josh asks Bruno, Kamala and Nakia if they are available to attend his party. Kamala and Naki respond that they are unable too. After Zoe leaves the shop, Kamala defends Zoe against Nakia's insults. Later, Kamala daydreams and writes about the Avengers in her fanfiction until her mother requests her presence at the dinner table. Kamala asks her parents if she would be able to go to Josh's party, but her father responds angrily and sends her to her room. Ignoring her father's wishes, Kamala jumps out the window and attends the party. Bruno stops Kamala and suggests that she goes back home. Angrily, she leaves as Terrigen Mist start to swallow up Jersey City. As the Terrigen Mists activate Kamala's powers, she has a hallucination with The Avengers. She admits that she wants to look more like Captain Marvel. They disappear and Kamala finishes undergoing her Terrigenesis. She finds that she gains blond hair like Captain Marvel with a similar Ms. Marvel costume.

Teenager Kamala Khan adores superheroes, especially her idol Captain Marvel, formerly Ms. Marvel. One night she sneaks out of her home to attend a waterfront party and is exposed to a cloud of Terrigen Mist, which grants her shape-changing powers; her subconscious mind causes her to transform into Ms. Marvel.
Kamala uses her powers to save Zoe from drowning, and her heroics are noticed by others, who assume she's Captain Marvel. Still barely in control of her abilities, Kamala returns home and assumes her own shape just in time to be caught and lectured by her parents.
Kamala begins to get a grip on how to change her size and adopt the appearance of others. When she sees Bruno being robbed by his own brother Vick, she takes on the appearance of Captain Marvel again to save Bruno, but the terrified Vick shoots her.
Kamala saves her own life from Vick's bullet using her shape-changing powers and reveals her abilities to Bruno. Creating her own Ms. Marvel costume, Kamala heads to the place where Vick is being held under the thumb of a super-criminal called the Inventor but has to face the Inventor's gang and robots.
Ms. Marvel fails in her first attempt to save Vick and has to flee. She takes some time to train with Bruno to better understand her abilities, then makes a second attempt, which succeeds. The Inventor's gang alert their boss about Ms. Marvel.
Ms. Marvel fights one of the Inventor's robots, causing her to be late for a family function, which gets Kamala grounded by her parents.
