When the street gang known as the Golden Tigers attempts to rob passengers on the subway, they are initially confronted by a lone New York City police officer. The Tigers quickly disarm the officer, knocking his service revolver away with a throwing star, and their leader is on the verge of executing him with his own weapon when Iron Fist arrives on the scene. Iron Fist intervenes to prevent the officer's murder and takes on the entire Golden Tigers gang, subduing nearly all of them with ease. The only setback comes when his foot slips on a loose piece of newspaper while engaging the last gang member, resulting in a minor knife wound to his back — though he quickly recovers and takes the final Tiger down. However, Iron Fist is momentarily distracted by an incoming subway train and is blindsided by a not-quite-unconscious gang member; in the ensuing chaos, the gang manages to slip away into the crowd as passengers disembark from the train. While Police Lieutenant Rafael Scarfe and Iron Fist work together to gather what information they can about the gang, District Attorney Bill Hao launches his own independent investigation, driven by the knowledge that his brother Robert is involved with the Tigers. Hao tails female Tiger member Cynthia Wu back to the gang's headquarters. There, Bill overhears the Tigers and their leader Chaka — who is, in fact, his brother Robert — discussing plans to take over the city's underworld following the removal of Ruffio Costa from the New York crime scene. When Cynthia offers the services of her female fighters, Chaka dismisses them as weak, punctuating his point by striking her. Bill's eavesdropping is soon discovered, and he is captured by the gang. Meanwhile, at Danny Rand's home, Danny struggles to come to terms with the revelation that his parents' deaths were orchestrated by Master Khan and Yu-Ti. Later, at the Meachum Building, Joy Meachum enlists Davos to look into some of her father's more questionable business holdings. Eventually, Danny, Misty, and Jeryn head to the Meachum Building to reclaim Danny's share of the company — the Meachums being unaware that Danny is, in fact, Iron Fist. Their business meeting is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Chaka and the Golden Tigers, who have come to stake their claim as the new crime bosses of the city.
