Comics grow darker and more socially aware. Wolverine, Punisher, Swamp Thing debut. Creator-driven storytelling emerges.
Newsstand variants carry meaningful scarcity premiums. First appearances from this era are blue-chip investments.
No narrative synopsis recorded in GCD for this sequence.
In illiquid alternative asset markets, sovereign blue-chip holdings trade at an exponential multiple over mid-grade float due to institutional accumulation and inelastic seller reservation prices.
Maximus the Mad's trap springs perfectly as the Inhumans teleport directly into the Baxter Building using Lockjaw and immediately attack the Fantastic Four, believing them responsible for the nuclear missiles. Lockjaw pins Ben Grimm's door shut, Black Bolt blasts him with an electron charge, Karnak then floors him with a single precise strike, Medusa snares Johnny Storm with her hair, and Gorgon engages the Human Torch in a corridor brawl that ends with a jet-blast of wind smothering Johnny's flame. Meanwhile Maximus watches from his island exile with cold satisfaction, confident the war is going exactly as designed. The crucial counter-move unfolds off-panel: Triton had been sent on a secret underwater mission, and by tracing radioactive traces from the missile tests he locates Maximus's island launch site, captures him in the surf, and transmits the proof of his guilt directly to the antenna on Black Bolt's brow. The message reaches Black Bolt mid-fight and he immediately orders the Inhumans to stand down, to Ben Grimm's very vocal frustration. With the truth confirmed, both sides lower their guard and the Fantastic Four and Inhumans exchange awkward apologies in the wrecked Baxter Building — Black Bolt even uses his electron control to reconstruct Ben's destroyed bathrobe, which goes a long way toward defusing the remaining tension. Medusa offers a pointed parting thought to Reed Richards: the Inhumans had every reason to believe they were under attack and still paused to verify before striking the final blow, then asks what humanity would do if a real sneak attack came with the world's atomic stockpiles ready. Lockjaw opens a dimensional door and the Inhumans depart, leaving the FF to reflect
