In Manhattan, Havok is concussed and dreaming of the moment he and his brother Scott escaped the plane crash in Anchorage, Alaska that seemingly claimed the lives of their mother and father. He awakens to the sight of the Scarlet Witch battling a mind controlled Thor. She manages to use her Hex Power to stave off the Thunder God for a while, but as she's about to be overwhelmed, she receives assistance from Havok. The Red Skull and some of his S-Men walk through the streets, taking in the carnage they've caused, with Honest John continuing to influence the citizenry. John is rendered unconscious by a blow from Captain America's shield which was intended for the Red Skull. The Red Skull once again tries to tempt his old foe into joining his new anti-mutant crusade. Cap manages to snap out his trance and is momentarily knocked out by the villain's newly acquired telepathic powers. When he regains consciousness, the Red Skull shows Captain America a vision of a future where Cap himself leads a crusade which denies rights to mutants and hunts them down. Scarlet Witch tells Havok to help in the battle against the Red Skull whilst she handles Thor. Wanda uses Chaos Magic, at great risk to herself, and removes Thor from the battle by hurling him into the sky. Meanwhile, the Red Skull continues to affect Captain America's mind. The villain shows him visions of the worst aspects of America. He also tries to sway Cap by showing a vision of an idyllic life for Steve where he's married and has a family. Rogue aids Captain America by stealing the Goat-Faced Girl's power and using it to shut off the telepathic power of the Red Skull. The villain shoots Rogue but, thanks to being hit by a blast from Havok, his shot only wings Rogue. Havok then sets about beating the Red Skull. In reality he's actually attacking Rogue since, when she was shot, Rogue lost the ability to switch off Skull's telepathy and he took advantage of the opportunity to mess with Havok's perception of things. Captain America is no longer under control and lashes out at the villain. The Red Skull is saved by Dancing Water who teleports him away. With the people around them free, and horrified by their actions, Havok tells them that the attack on the mutants was not their fault, but Red Skull's. He shares with them the last words of his mother, about supporting each other. The team, including Thor back to his normal self, then gather up their injured and take their leave. Back at the Avengers Mansion, the base for the newly coined Avengers Unity Squad, Captain America and Havok look at leads to find the S-Men and Havok expresses doubts over his own leadership. The Scarlet Witch attempts to start again with Rogue, who refuses, stating that she is joining the team to honor Xavier and keep an eye on Wanda. Thor reassures Wolverine that he hasn't failed Professor X's dream and shows him a copy of the Daily Bugle which reports on the humans and mutants of the Avengers and X-Men (Earth-616) fighting side by side to stop the Red Skull. Thor then tells Wolverine that from now the fight for Xavier's dream of cohabitation will continue, but the mutants will not be fighting for it alone. Three months from now: Havok, the Scarlet Witch and Sunfire are running through the streets, pursued by Nimrod units. Someone named Ahab has drawn them a map of where they need to go. They enter the sewers and find the skeletal remains of Immortus. Sunfire suggests that he must have arrived there centuries ago before beings known as the Apocalypse Twins "locked the era as prime". On the wall next to him is a prophetic image, drawn by Immortus, depicting the Red Skull at the beginning of the riot using telepathic powers. This is referred to as the moment when an anomaly began, suggested to them by Cable as "the moment the seven became one". The group is then confronted by the Red Skull in armour like that worn by Onslaught along with the reanimated corpse of Charles Xavier.
