A captain is complaining about his old derelict spaceship that is infested with cockroaches. He mentions how one time while eating at a restaurant his salad had a bug in it. The engineer of the crew wonders how life would be like if insects had evolved the same way mammals did on Earth. After the ship crashes on an alien world, the crew finds it inhabited by giant clothed insects. While they hide in some vegetation, they are scooped up by one of the insect beings who prepares it as a salad for the king. The king is horrified to find humans in his salad!

Bored with his life of radios and people, Henry Short reads of the Neurological Institute of England perfecting a "free will" robotic machine, as it were. So, he visits the local library to get the plans and build one himself... but one that will also obey him. What he doesn't foresee is that the machine redesigns itself and improves on the original plans... with devastating results to Henry Short!
An alternate version of the previous story sees Captain Donnel and his crew not going into suspended animation when travelling 30 years to Pollux. When they get there (now as old men), they were shocked to see humans had already colonized the star. Apparently during their 30 year voyage, a scientist on Earth invented a star drive which allows people to travel from Earth to Pollux in just 2 days!
A scientist invents a cure for the common cold by stopping people from sneezing (which is what causes the virus to spread). He gives a demonstration to the world by using his cure on himself and asks people to try to get him to sneeze. This gives him the urge to sneeze, but he can't because of the cure and it causes his head to explode.
Percy is given an unusual plant as a gift from Alec, and he notes that a tiny, 8" tall girl has emerged from it. Percy then takes a special secret solution to shrink in size so that he can be with her. She dies shortly thereafter of old age and a distraught Percy buries her body. After a while he notices a plant growing from her grave and realizes that she was a plant being. A new girl will sprout from the flower in the near future causing Percy to wait.
Two archaeologists uncover a large, smooth object, looking very much like a building block, that is covered with etched inscriptions on five of its six sides, which are later translated by Marvin. To their surprise, the block proves to be a diary of an alien boy (who is a reptilian giant) who stole his father's spaceship on his planet 14 Centuries before and crashed on Earth during the Medieval age. The frightened lost alien child is slayed by a knight which became the legend of "Saint George and the Dragon".
Edgar Walden comes back to Earth with a fantastic story concerning he and the crew of the "Columbia", who made a trip to the Moon and whose crew were the first men on the Moon... or so they thought!
